      Hello,
Well I don’t like the method of the school. The food which they give is only indian food which is
so disgusting. Once thy gave spoiled food and my child got sick. They once put it on the newspaper that it is 5 star food given in the school. Such liars. We have to pay almost 3 lakhs a year.It is just like an ordinary school. They gave pasta once or twice. It i made of tomato soup, yuck! Not only the food , even the way they teach is totally false. They say that the syllabus is ICSE but they teach in the indian syllabus. That too the infrastructure is okay. There is no point of paying so much fees.I hate the school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Hi.

Have been checking out schools for my daughter who will be eligible next June for grade I. Visited Greenwood High campus and liked the school beter than Inventure. Looks more structured and seems to have equally good infrastructure. But have a few doubts and so would love it if any parent could respond:

      - Noticed the toilets of grade 1 were not clean
      - school looks rather dusty with splattering of paint everywhere
      - Science lab looks rather desrted and untouched:)
      - no sign of any kind of lessons in music 9 either indian/western- vocal/instrumental)- though they claim there is high emphasis on music
      - kids seem to be a little lost in the ‘free period’ they seem to be doing what they want….wonder if that is the best thing for them.
      - not sure if school is using technology to improve effectiveness ( I mean using multimedia products like Smart class from Educomp or Classedge etc. These can be highly effective when used well.)
      - why are there fewer sections after grade 8? does that mean that teaching at higher grades is not really good and so fewer parents continue with their kids here after grade 7? any feedback on teaching in higher classes will be most welcome…
      - how often can one meet teachers for feedback? how accessible is the principal and vice principal?

Would really appreciate any feedback on teh current situation.

      Thanks & regards
      Veda

This school by name claims to be an international school. However in reality things are changing from bad to worst under the dictatorial and arrogant attitude of the principal. In terms of getting proper response for any queries, it is like any other schools.

Recent newsletter from the principal says, parents can’t meet teachers for “petty” isssues. Parents Teachers Meeting time is reduced to 2.5 hours for all the students of the grade once in 3 months. Don’t get deceived by the name and don’t expect the kind of response / communication like schools in US.

It is high time management consider appointing a truly international / right attitude principal so the school is really international.

I have experience in Greenwood high PSAC at Koramangala. For the entire year, I have seen my ward coming back sad most of the time on being treated unfairly. This is despite teacher finds the ward to be exceptionally good.

Attitude of Principal is ” I give a …. to what you think, I know more about your kid than you would ever know. Do not dare to speak anything against the school. ”

While the school maintains that all kids are equal and bad things should not be spoken in front of them, they do not blonk a lid before talking rude to parents in front of kids, (on mike on a celebration day ).

SO FOR AVERAGE PARENT, AVOID AT ALL COST.

its only favourable if you are on some good position in Govt org, rung a very business of your own. Then your Kid may enjoy without any complaints since he/she shall be awarded all his/her wishes.

After reading reviews on this website, i went to 3 schools and chose Greenwood high in July 2009 for my 4&1/2 year old. The teacher was exceptional and my daughter and I loved the school. And hence we decided to put my younger daughter too in this school in Nursery this year.

This year my experience has been very mixed with the change of management. My elder daughter has an exceptional teacher again this year but the younger one doesn’t want to go to school. Except some athletics, i find both of my girls being exposed to no other sports. The school has started nickle and dime collections. the uniform vendor was changed and quality much worse (i hated the sight of my younger daughter of avg height wearing the smallest size shorts that almost reached her ankles). internet access was withdrawn from parents of kids till 1st std. only 2 PTMs till date though there are supposed to be one per month. when i write to principal with my concern on any issue, i don’t receive any response. Notice for activities where parents are invited is a week or less making it a nightmare for parents who are working. Badly organized picnic with no effort to allay my security concerns was the last straw.

Am now looking for an alt school that has an extra doze of extra curricular activities in and around sarjapur road. Inventure academy and DPS are two schools i am considering. Any feedback?

Do you recommend GWH for 2 kids from US who will be in 6th and 3rd grade? Given the language problem, can they manage.

I am so lost with the list of schools and fees.

I see fee is at high end, is the fee worth for the school ? Do they provide the activities in school as advertised in their website ?

Your response will help me decide.

      Thanks,

      Malini Reply:

      yes,

The school has a lot of transplants from US/UK – students and teachers – and hence think settling in a school like this would be easy. As long as your kids speak english, i think they would be fine. my daughter couldn’t even speak english for good 3 months (she only spoke oriya) and still it was fine. all advertised extra curricular do happen.

as my above message indicates, i was pretty unhappy with school. My unhappiness was for my younger daughter. Emails don’t work but i went and met the principal. I loved the responsiveness post that. We discussed options, observed for a week and at the end of it, changed the section. She is now thriving in the new class.

As i spoke to parents of kids in TISB, Inventure – the other two schools i was considering, i realized all these schools are equally good/bad but a hugh cut above the rest.

      hope this helps.

    18. Ah, the Wow factor continues says:

      Hello All,

I had posted my experience in this forum some 1.5 years back and realised its high time to post an update.

GWH is doing a wonderful job in keeping up its promises that it had made some time back, be it
      - regarding better communication process,
      - GPRS facility for the kids travelling by bus and sms alerts for parents b4 picking and droping time,
      - more formalised uniform/ books dispensation process,
      - detailed regular updates from Principal on the new activities etc.

Its been a wonderful journey for my daughter too and she continues to enjoy going to school. She can already read and write simple sentences, forward/backward count till 100 and add/subtract till 10, knows hindi ‘a’ to ahha’ and most importantly, knows a lot more about human body, universe, water cycle, and whole array of interesting topics which the school covers in ‘Show and Tell’ presentations and field trips.

She has also started enjoying sports, become more adventurous, enjoys outdoors because of the stress given on sports activities.

One important aspect which needs some consideration is the breakfast and lunch menu. Though they have buffet, which workes well for older students, for Kindergartners, its not too wide spread. Though my daughter mentioned jalebi and gulab jamun, wenever they get that.

I am looking forward to more years to come..and keep posting my feedback. U can contact me directly for any specific Q. Thanks!

In the past 2 years my child has been going to GWH, she has never felt bad about going to school. The teachers genuinely love and respect kids.

The way they have improved infrastructure and facilities, it surely knows how to cater to growing demand.

A few of my friends pulled out their kids from other schools to get them thru GWH and its been a good ride, for all.

I would recommed it to anyone who believes that learning happens beyod the books too. And wishes to see a wave from a smiling child every morning!

My daughter has joined greenwood this year in june (2010). Like few other people we have also moved from UK and were very indecisive about the schools. We had a look at TISB, Inventure, Indus and Greenwood and few others.
My feel abt Greenwood so far is its still establishing itself. Many teachers are new and are not implementing basic concept of international school. My daughter has complained that teachers yell too. They do have many activites which goes up in number after grade 5, however none of them trained kids effectively. If your child is good in any like swimming, chess, taekando etc you will have to pursue it privately too. I feel they are just included in the timetable.

I was told that school emphasize on academics. Kids participate in activities like quizzes, spelling competition, however till date I haven’t heard of one.

School timing is quite long. 8.30 to 3.30. (8.30 – 9.00) being breakfast time which doesn’t make sense as most parents give breakfast as kids will be travelling in buses for as long as 1 1/2 hr. Most of buses anyway don’t reach by 8.30. At the end of the school day kids have 30 min in their timetable for what purpose i don’t understand.

School makes you buy all the thing from its vendor including shoes, dresses, books, stationery. The quality of which I heard is detoriating every year. School fees also come in high bracket and there are added expenses on top.

Food wise not a very healthy mix, its mostly southIndian(lunch, snack and breakfast)

Please indicte your answers to the following queries as under:-
      1) How is the School overall. Shcool’s website indicates by looking its infrastructure as fairly Good School.
      2) In the initial stages of the school going , it is not infrastructure that builds character, aptitidude, academic interests, but class surroundings and deligent coaching standards of class teachers. Yes later stages ie; high scool extra curri- cullar activities are equally importat along with academic pursuits.
      3) How is the school canteen in particular with respect to cleanliness as well as quality of food. Since we are vegeterians does school cater vegeterian food.

My son has been studying in Greenwood High for the past 3 years and I am happy to say he has enjoyed his time there and is always looking forward to go to school.
Althought I dont have much problem with the academics, the food provided by the school canteen is def. below acceptable standard. One of the reasons why we even enrolled my son in Greenwood was because the school would provide the meals. So it is disheartening to see him come back home everyday with an empty stomach.
It has been almost 2 months since term started and we are yet to receive the uniforms…the vendors are rude and unapproachable and I dont no who to contact regarding this as nobody seems to know whats happening.
While I did initially like the school, after seeing my son come home starving, i am really having second thoughts.

My son has taken N no. of Asset tests and the only one who seems to benefit from this is the firm selling us these tests.
No remedial classes, change in syllabus etc. etc has come about.

My daughter has been going to Greenwood High for last one year and I have to admit it is the best school for her.
      Mainly for the following reasons:
      - She looks forward to going to school everyday.
      - She enjoys her time there and has learnt more than any CBSE school child would have learnt in LKG
      - She is getting trained in a vast area of knowledge including ‘public spaking’, presentation skills and the usual ABCs and number system.
      - We have a very pleasant relationship with her teacher whom we can approach anytime for any info.

Way back in 2007, there were lot of reports and issues rgdg admin and staff. I have to say Greenwood high has done beautiful job is coming up from there!

This school has changed since last year and now becoming worse. We are noticing some good staff moving out over last couple of months only to be replaced by sub-standard staff (of course not all some are still good).
I gather that the school is in a major cost-cutting spree, which is fine, but not at the cost of our child’s education!

For admissions you should contact the office. As per my knowledge they accomodate students throughout the year. We also moved from U.S. this year. My children have finished first three months of school. The school is good . The staff is good and the school atmosphere is relaxed, not very strict. My best advice to you would be do not fall too much into comparison of schools among two countries.

      I hope it helps you.

    45. Ah! the WoW factor says:

And so our quest for deciding the school for our daughter ended when we entered the green gates of Greenwood high, Sarjapur Road School. :)

My 3.5 YO daughter had been going to Shemrock Preparatory school for 2 yrs -playschool and pre-nursery. We went over a weekend to visit the premises and the facilities in the school with my daughter in tow. The first reaction was, wow, this is a nice place. YEs! For those, who are deciding on finalizing the schools from abroad, this school has that appeal.
      :)

We were taken around the by admission officer, shown the facilities and the classrooms, the exam centre, sports complex and the swimming pool, labs, play ground, cafeteria.
We decided to get into Greenwood after having a word with the ‘to-be-class teacher’ for my daughter. Next day, we went again to meet the teachers, who after some observation suggested that my daughter could join LKG as she knows most of stuff already!
My daughter was happy to go in the class room with her teacher, and the next day and since then, she’s been happy to go to school.
Whole process took around 1.3lac. For 50K –registration,56K-tution plus misc fees for full yr, 30K for transport for full yr.
I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for overall development of their child and not just scores in Xth exam. As I learnt, some of their students have got into state level swimming, chess tournaments. Some plays and direction by the director of ‘The Lion King’.

So far so good. Will keep posted of my exp in this blog.

      Happy Schooling!

      hello
We are planning to move from UK to Banglore, I have two children boy aged 7 and girl aged 4, I am looking for some information on schools and fees. My main focal point when looking for a good school would be a good mix of extra curricular activities and education, Cambridge /Oxford exams. I would also be looking for a school which have students taking up places in UK universities as we would be returning back.
      regards
