I visited the school four weeks ago. Met a few students, teachers and the admissions official. I had a very enjoyable experience — I must say it was the best treatment among the schools I visited.
I do not know if that should count towards grading the school… that experience plus any direct parent comments are making me lean towards this school. After nearly 20 yrs stint in USA this is a big move for me. Almost every information I get seems to be incomplete.
There was one post that compared several schools … can somebody explain to me why this school should be rated better than two its neighbors, namely TISB and Inventure?

This platform is growing in the coverage of schools. We are not saying we have covered all schools but whatever is there, you get public opinion on that.
The other thing is, just because a school is difficult to get into does not mean it is good.

Hi all,
I strictly believe these rating numbers have anything to do with selection of schools and carry no meaning at all.
There are other excellent schools in Bangalore. Why such schools are not listed here or rated.
You can walk in for admission to any schools listed here which are rated 3.6, 3.8 etc. But very difficult to get in to the good schools which are not listed here or not voted/rated in this site…Looks ironic.
I couln’t stop writting here when I saw these numbers and “Stars” on some of the schools…just my 2 cents..

Hi, I am deeply dissappointed to read the reviews of Vibgyor. We are moving to Banaglore in next academic year and seeking admission in Class 2. Seems like Greenwood seems to be doing the best. However till late last year reviews for Greenwood too is not encouraging

You are in the right city if you are parent of a special needs child.
I was with Spastics Society of Karnataka which is situated in Indiaranagar. If you EVER have a question/concern/help just walk into this place and Mrs. Prema/ Mr.Chari /mrs. Kairali and so on…if you want you can take my name- Anupama who was in the HRDT dept.
This place is a place where ALL the needs of kids with spasticity or ADHD or Autism or Learnign Disability are available and hence they will have a great resource of schools which would be appropriate for your kids needs.
The school which I could actually recommend off hand is Bangalore International..which is located on Hennur Road. This from whatever I have know is a REAL Integrated school.
But it may be far …I know that their buses come till whitefield and the bus ride one way is 45 minutes…Please check them out if feel.

Hi all,
We have decided to go ahead with Greewood High after checking Inventure Academy also.
My husband was very impressed with the kind of understanding shown by the pricipal and the staff towards the transiting kids from one education system to another.
Plus the infrastructure and the general upkeep of the premises and all seems to be very good.
- One thing i want to share, we involved our daughter in a big way in shortlisting the schools she would like to go for “her” reasons”…she surfed the net , read whatever the school had to say on their web-sites, checked the list of facilitis and so on…
Believe me it didnt seem much different than our job searches!!!
Greenwood was on the top of the three she did..what this has done for now is..she is actually looking forward to going there…try this with kids…i dont think there should be an age bar…for little ones u can surf the info with them…
Beacause as parents the amount of info available both +ve and – ve plus our “High expectations” coming out of” trying to give the Best for our children” can otherwise get very confusing and leave us with more questions than ans…Involving our daughter was a great learning and a way of empowering her in the decision making ….

It will be a great help if anyone can suggest a school/schools which has got a facility of special educator and actually follows the integrated education for kids with learning difficulties.

You didnt mention how old is your son.
Its a great a relief to know that you feel that your son is doing well due to the teachers efforts. Do you mean to say its the philosophy of the school to help kids catch up or pay more attention to the kids who are lagging for whatever reason? or does it mean the teachers have greater accountability at Greenwood High or something else?
I do not mean to say what is right or wrong but I am looking at the culture in schools with specific needs of my daughter that’s it. Beacuse that’s what is going to set them apart, otherwise other facilities at schools charging the kind of fees that they do, will be pretty much the same.
My husband will be visiting the school sometime around the 15th of this month and will see how it goes…

as a parent im very happy with the school
my son’s teachers are very good
the level of studies is higher in bangalore as compared to mumbai but my son has picked up very well thanks to his teachers efforts
as a teacher im very happy too
we are like a family working together and there’s no politics here
all in all it has been a great experience for me as a parent as well as a teacher

Nice to know about Green wood high school. I was searching for a good school for my sister’s daughter, found this school very interesting and good in both academics and extra curricular. in a couple of days my sister is going to visit this school will post then.
i have a query, i just want to know will this school take care for a student who is having heart disorder, i mean she is having pace maker, but she is like a normal child only, even though she shld be taken care by her teachers .

We are relocating from US by end of Jan ’09.
My daughter is in 7th grade and has got used to the very accomodative and “cool” approach of education here. I am looking for a school which gives equal importance to the capabilities of children in academics as well as extra-curricular. I would avoid a school which is obsessed with the % of a child in measuring its own success. My daughter will be miserable giving weekly tests and semesters which will be the only decider for her “worth” in the class and school in general..
Can you parents throw some light on these issues with respect to your experience and a “feel”..for kids in the 6th grade onwards?

How is the academics? At the end of 12th will the student be capable of competing with any traditional school kids like NPS/DPS etc? I am scared when someone boasts about lots of extra curricular and concrete structures..!

The teachers are very capable Sumi, and more than I can say about the other neighbouring schools where I have had personal experiences. This year they have the IGCSE, AS & A levels taking up their boards. One of the parents whose child is taking up the boards this year says that the higher level teachers are very good and it seems like the school wants seems to be uncompramising in terms of the teachers as this is their first bard year and so want to create a good reputation for themselves.

I got my children into greenwood this yr and am quite happy about the things going on there. The management seem fairly hospitable and overall I had a good impression about it. I heard the school concentrated more on the average and hardly any importance was given to the above average but it seems like they are working on it. They have enrolled themselves to about three competitive exams etc, and personally I am pleased to see the exposure my son is getting. They facilities also seem to be quite impressive. When I visited the school in may, these facilities were not in place and I am glad to see that they have kept their word. The campus is very impressive although it looks dull from the outside(don’t judge a book by its cover!!!) but is quite spacious and warm inside. I even hear some of the students have been taken to play state level sports this year! Quite an exposure I must say. And seeing all that they offer, it doesn’t seem like a lot to pay(compared to all other international schools here). They principal said they are also affiliated to Cambridge this year as well as ICSE. In fact, 11th and 12th starts this year itself it seems. Although there wasn’t any problem with the books this year(I hear from old parents about some difficulties in this area the previous year) the uniforms seemed quite a nightmare with small shirts and way to big pants. But then again, it is outsourced to ginny and jony and if a leading company like that fails to deliver, we can hardly blame the school. But me choosing greenwood was mainly due to all the extracurricular activities. They have taekwondo, chess, swimming,tennis, classical music, western music and all the other usuals such as soccer, table tennis etc. this is more that I can say about the other schools that I visited. My son also says they are going to have a drama production this year(lion king-circle of life) and is being directed by Mr. Kevin Oliver!(reputed director from dubai whose plays have been houseful on all days) I want to watch it as an audience as much as a parent. I hear that at present only Indian food is being served by as my son says, continental food is being introduced upon the suggestions of the school’s food committee which comprises of elected students from all grades. The boarding, which was introduced this year, seems to be pretty good from what I hear from parents of boarders and they boarders even get non-veg food. But most of all I want my child to be happy and actually look forward to going to school and as greenwood definitely does that, everything else is secondary to me.
I hope my review is usuful to many other parents who are looking for a good place for their child.

We are moving from the US to Bangalore next month, and we visited several schools this week for our daughter (entry into 3rd grade). We settled on Greenwood High for the following reasons:
- good mix of academic vs. extra-curricular
- nice campus with greenery and open air; new facilities coming up for swimming and tennis starting next month. Huge new cafeteria (vegetarian food only) will also be ready for the new school year next month.
- talked to the vice principal and a couple of staff members and got a sense that they really care about nurturing the kids (BTW, they do have a new principal now, but she was out of town).
- class size capped at 24 (four classes max for each grade). The classrooms and furniture are set up for this size and no more.
We also visited these other schools (with quick comments on each):
Inventure — similar to Greenwood, but less facilities (no swimming/tennis yet), and we heard from a couple of friends that the academics are not as strong here. This was our second choice.
TISB — very impressive (world class) campus and facilities, but the high fees (4-6 lakhs per year) doesn’t seem worth it for the lower grades. That’s the feedback from some friends who send their kids here. Might be better if your child is going into high school and has a definite intent to go abroad for college, because they prep you very well for that purpose.
VIBGYOR — very disappointing. The mud road to the school from Airport Rd / Varthur Rd is HORRIBLE. Can’t imagine what it will be like when it rains. That alone crossed the school off our list right away! The school building is small, not as airy/roomy as I would like. The staff was busy sending off kids on a summer camp (day trip), so we couldn’t get to talk much to any of the staff.
Vidyashilp Academy — very impressive campus, and was our first choice, but no admissions to 3rd grade (long waitlist), and in general, it’s very hard to get admissions into the “intermediate” grades of 2 to 7 (unless you are there in person on November 1st for the following year!!).
Vidyaniketan — sister school of Vidyaship, very small campus in a place that looks run down. We walked out within five minutes.
Mallya Aditi — shockingly small campus with minimal facilities, and it’s situated in a terrible location in Yelahanka (choking road access). They didn’t have admissions anyway, but we went just to take a look. I have no idea why this school is so well reputed.

We have had a very disappointing experience with Greenwood. The teaching staff as well as the management has adhoc approach (uniform not given on time, calendar not avaiable on time, inadequate or no communication), not responsive to suggestions or requests (despite having had discussions)…
After a difficult one year we decided to take our kid to a better school…

I have a 7 year old going there. The Principal has left, sure, but at the end of the last academic year. By the start of the new academic year there was a new principal.
I love the chess classes and the abacus that my kid is doing. My kid has been amply encouraged in art and sports (soccer, in particular). I was aware of my child’s artistic talent but soccer was a revelation.
There are things they can do better in but on the whole, after 6 schools my kid has gone to, I like what I see and so does my child.

They have an impressive building but there is really no “fresh approach” here as they advertise. They provide the traditional schooling looking at the homework/classwork my children bring home. Their comparitively high fees seems to increase every year. Also their charges for books etc. seems to have several hidden components with “kickbacks” to the school administration.

pretty good school… i know facilities are lacking somewhat and people do feel disappointed by promise vs delivery but in comparison to other schools at same price points, i think its not too bad
our biggest criteria is a happy kid… we are not overly zealous abt strenuous brilliance inspiring education at age 6… may be it becomes a concern when he gets older but right now he wants to go to school everyday which is a big win right off the bat..
