    Hi Sunny,

I do not know much about Vibgyor. But your post is a valubale feedback to other parents . This is what I hear from other parents who send their kids to the so called hi fi schools with swimming pool, horse riding and blah blah… They spend most their time outside like in a resort and lacking in studies. Yes I agree with you completely. some of these extra things we can always make up from outside. School should provide basic education at its best!

    Thanks

    Hi all,

My son going to ukg, in VH, but i feel that school is not concentrating much on studies, its only the money , they dont have exams, no they give books, so on what basis parents will teach the kids, they synopsys what they give , is just in brief of wha tthey teach , but not in detail. And they do , a lot of partialty to children, like rich parents are looked with more attention than a middle class people, the cost of ukg comes around 82 thousand one year plus other charges. The school just because of the other branches in India like mumbai and pune, here in blr also its got a name, but the reality is its only money just like a marketing company, and the unifom what they give is pathetic and the cost is high. I would really appreciate if the shcool would have concentrated much on studies it would have been good. I would request parents to think twice before sending to VH coz finally what matters is the studies, the extra SPA u can make ur child learn it anywhere. Think twice its good for NRI and people for whom money doesnt matters….

I am quite agree with Sridhar and would like to add few more points. My Son studies in class two and we are delighted to see our Son’s progress in last one year. Except that their fee is little on higher side I do not have any other complains. Below are few points which I found Vibgyour scores over other schools in that area.

    - Their Curriculum, class worksheet which they provide is of very high quality and more analytical. The good thing is that the school does not encourage rotting at all. They conduct surprise tests in the class.

    - They have very clear processes and structure defined. For example they have class co-ordinator for each class.

    - Teachers are very friendly and open.

    - The principal is very approachable. Probably one of the best Principal I have seen so far.

    - Not so much burden of home work.

    - Teacher-Student ratio is very good. 22 students per teacher.

    - Very well defined SPA(Sports Activity) but charges are again on higher side

Overall we are very satisfied parents and rate Vibgyor very high on quality.

    Thanks

I am a parent and my girl studies in 1 std. There are process and convenience issues as you read through above, but learning wise its good.
The teachers take good care and they are SINCERE towards educating the child and treating the child as a child. Money is an issue but also consider teachers need to be paid decently and we are not really ready to put our wards in govt schools. the issues talked about will improve i hope. an important consideration for me is its really nearby and its good enough.

What I expect about any school today is that they dont torture my kid till they are in 6 std. Small kids dont even know what u r expecting them to know then. Some schools are doing it wrong. Go and talk to parents from different schools and u will know!!!!

vibgyor high is surely not one.

I can say this as I stood school first in my 10th (95 maths,98 science in CBSE), went to a prestigious engg school in india and know enough about education by experience.

I am aware that an orientation will be happening sometime in April or May.

I wanted to know when approximately will this be held , whether the begining weeks of May or Later weeks of May and so on.

The School authorities are not able to tell yet.

Has anyone else any idea on when this would be?

    Hi All,

Just to update you with new LKG Fees structure in Vigbyor for 2010 -11 sessions.
    Admission Fees: 20,000 (non-refundable)
    Annual Fees: 18,000
    Tuition Fees: 11000 (1st session)

Later on you’ll have to pay Tuition Fees 3 times again (for remaining 3 quarters)

So, the total would be 82,000/- only.

Note: the above fees do not include Transport, School Dress & shoes and BF/Lunch.

I find the above fees structure slightly high in comparison to other schools but the Activities, Teachers & Student:Teacher ratio are much better then others.

    Hope will help you!!!!

We got a call on 12 Oct 09 that the child and parents should attend the interview on 13October, 2009.

We met with the co-ordinator at the interview. She asked very basic questions, and then informed us we can take the seat for our child if we want.

Since we are still trying other schools, we told them we will decide by october end.

She had completed her Kindergarten here and will be going to 1st Grade from this Sept’09. I would like to know regarding admissions for the students who has to join in the middle of year. Could you please send in the information regarding the procedures how to go about .. I would really appreciate it…

    Hi Anu,
You should be able to get admission for 1st Std even in October. Treamis’s schedule matches US schedule – so, it will start in Sept..

Many other schools will NOT mind taking her in if they have seats – many of them do. If you go after NPS or DPS, it might be difficult. However, if you go after GEAR, Primus, India International, Inventure Academy, Greenwood High, etc, you should be just fine. They don’t want to waste a seat and so will absorb the kid.
You can start calling the schools that I have listed and find out about the availability.

Let me know if you have any other questions. You can email me at personalgroup at gmail dot com

    Hello All,

I got my daughter admitted in VH Marathalli this year in Jr. Kg.

    +ves.
She is Dec born & no school was considering her for Jr. Kg though she already completed her Nursery from Hello Kids. The principal (Anita) agreed to meet & assess before admission…Rest is history :)

No home work on weekdays but on weekends (writing/Reading/coloring)

Child seems happy and looks fwd to going to school :)

Classes started in June…In short time I have seen cool improvement in her English speaking ability :)

    -ves.
I did not receive the mail for the orientation day or any other communication

The day we were supposed to pick up the uniforms – the situation was pathetic & chaotic. It surely could have been better organized….which would have taken care of any number of parents. It took me 3 hrs. just to collect what I ordered weeks before. Shoes are still not available.

I had repeatedly enquired about bus facility for my location before paying and was repeatedly assured that it will be taken care of. Though they claim a “reasonable” walking distance on their website, it’s a km away…..In fact the bus coordinator is one rude person. My mail to the management has not seen any response.

    Overall…
I am happy with the school where the Child’s development is concerned (after all, that is what is important) but it should have improved communication / better organization / better transport system

    Dear Yahoo,

I understand your concerns. As a parent, I have also gone through some anxious moments but somehow, it has helped talking to the school. Intially I met the school management with 12 other parents during November 08 but later I have started meeting them alone. To clear your doubts, I stay at Rohan Vasantha (an apartment complex at Marathahalli) & I have been a VH parent for the last 2 years :) . There are about 7 of us (parents) who keep interacting with each other & the school, thus so much info. In fact, in the group, I think I am the least informed one.

  21. yahoo says:

    Dear black coffee,

First of all I am here NOT to misguide anyone but saying what I found during my visit to school and my interaction with other kid’s of VH, also most of the things which I found are inline with what others are also feeling.

You always has all the internal details about VH (I hope you are not one from VH, just kidding :-) ) which some how they are not disclosing to others — at-lest NOT to me :-) even on asking explicitly for example ICSE/IGCSE certification, they are showing you all internal document and to me they are not ready to commit anything after demanding 58k fees for “Play Group”, and on the basis of that only I wrote what I found and feel about it.

“and maybe no fee hike next year if the recession becomes bad” — this is what again I am hearing from you where as some how when I asked same that you hiked fees even after recession, they said me with proud they never came down historically and they are going to follow same in future.

    Hi Vanita,

Every school needs separate affilitaion. They will have to take affiliation individually for all schools. Whitefield centre does not need affiliation/permission as it is pre primary only (affiliation is required from Grade I onwards). For details, you can visit the official website of ICSE – http://www.cisce.org

  23. black coffee says:

    Dear Yahoo,

I guess you “jumped the gun” again without veryfying the facts with anyone :) VIBGYOR HIGH has a complete RO (Reverse Osmosis) plant inside the premises. The water gets treated there & after that is filled into Aquapure. They do the testing of water once in a quarter :) I was also concerned about water, so I checked with the school first & saw the plant myself.

Your issue on teachers is valid but it is again linked to the fee hike. To retain good teachers & bring in better teachers, the school has gone in for the hike in fee (which is very nominal to my understanding, about 7% only). During the last PTM, most of the parents spoke to the principal or director & got these things verified. On fee hike after affiliation, I was told that the fee hike still would be reasonable (8-10% max) like last couple of years (and maybe no fee hike next year if the recession becomes bad).

My “same” request to everyone, “nth” time: Please check with the school before writing any blogs which you are not sure about. Please understand that lot of parents would be depending on these blogs to decide on their child’s future & anything we say might (mis) guide them.

    Hi Yahoo,
I got my son admitted on last thursday. I spoke to pricipal directly on affiliation issue and she informed me that they are expecting to get in next 4-5 months. So I am assuming getting an affiliation should not be an issue for Vibgyor High. We need to have some patience.

    Thanks

  26. yahoo says:

Divya, your points are valid and I think we should get it clarified further.

    #1#

W/O affiliation this is the fees and they are claiming hike of 5-7 % every year then what would be the fees after they will get affiliated to ICSE/IGCSE??

Also after charging such fat fees they are not even able to provide good water to kids — they are using Hindustan Lever purifier which comes for 1600 bugs and that too is not maintained properly where as school is in area where water is very hard and if we make our kids that water drinking for 10 years they may suffer with kidney stones.

This also indirectly indicates that they are not paying good salary to teachers and hence quality of teacher & retention are not good.

#2# Also day by day quality of education is coming down — so just they wanted to initially create hype about VH and looks they are done with that and now they are very sure they will find need ful kids to run thair school.

#3# “new teachers do not have good communication skills, no creativity”
    – I have no comment on creativity, but about communication skills my spouse’s observation matches with your one.

Lets take this stuff forward to VH, looks they just need to improve on these area, as facts about it started coming out.

    [Reply]

  27. Anny says:

Teachers are new; still I would say they take pains to understand the child and work with him. Out of 5 , 3 teachers were good. I did not face any issues with the communication skills of the teachers.
Principal and the Director are working hard to mould all the teachers in their school processes.

There is a concept of 2 class teachers that is also for good.

Teacher to Student ratio is very low, this is also good compared with others.

    [Reply]

  28. black coffee says:

Ok guys, here is the latest: VH has applied for ICSE & IGCSE (I have seen the communication personally) last year. IGCSE is supposed to come for inspection anytime between July & September & give affiliation. ICSE has asked for a few documents from the school, post which they would come for inspection. The school showed me the communication & are ready to show it to any parent who wishes to see it. They say they are confident of getting the affiliation this year (even VH Mumbai & Pune, Greenwood High, Prakriya etc. got their affiliation in their 3rd year & so is the case with other schools). I also check on terminology. Usage of ICSE & IGCSE is primarily on “informing the parents on which syllabus the school follows.” If VH Mumbai & VH pune have got their affiliation, I think there should not be a prob VH-Bangalore getting it too.

Thank you Vikas for your suggestion on checking with the school directly. I think it helps.

I would like to add one more thing-though they never promised during admission but now the school has taken 2 acres of adjacent land for children to play cricket & football from next year. I would like to be optimistic & hope that the school does better.

    [Reply]

  29. Divya says:

The school has increased the fee structure , SPA fee is increased to 4% how can there be a school running with such High fee with out having any affiliation arent they cheating the crowd.
My experience with Vibgyor in the initial status was very good, latter i see that there was a drastic changes in the teachers,
the new teachers do not have good communication skills, no creativity
i have see kids from other schools (grade 1) and they are very fluent in reading and writting but i dont see the same in most of the kids in Vibgyor.
    this is my observation,
and want to know from other parents how they feel about the teachers communication and mending the child.

and look at the job vacancies page where they say courses offered at the bottom: http://vibgyorhigh.com/VIBGYORHigh/htm/Marathahalli.html

I am not defending Vibgyor but what you are saying is contradictory to what Vibgyor High principal told me and there is all indication on their site about ICSE and IGCSE.

Our son has been going to Greenwood high for last 2 yrs and they recently got ICSE affiliation.

Parents please talk to the principal to resolve this issue. Ask them to give you phone numbers of few parents whom you can talk to. That would help you figure out issues.

  32. yahoo says:

Humm…understand your concerns, but here is my view.

I was in process of finding right school and I did research on net based on my selection criteria (ICSE + IGCSE) and had VH as TOP school in my list and I would have taken admission for my son w/o conforming ICSE + IGCSE affiliation unless some one on this portal had indicated it is NOT.

So I visited school to find fact and response to me was:

    1) VH is not ICSE certified but they are aiming to get same in next one year, I asked them for written commitment for same and they are not ready to do it, I understand their limitation but same time I have wasted my time and energy where it was NOT falling into my selection criteria at all.

    2) During my visit they clearly refused to commit anything about IGCSE, they said at most one of the VH High in Mumbai is IGCSE certified and that all we can tell.

Then I asked they why you are claiming that you are ICSC + IGCSE school, they said where you found us claiming our web site has No such claim and I realized VH high web is not claiming that. same time few other parents around me got socked as they alrady took admission as they were was under wrong impression like me.

    So bottom line points are

    # Any VH in Bangalore is not affiliated to any board, forget ICSE or IGCSE

    # VH web site do not claims that either they are ICSE or IGCSE certified or have any info on time line to get it certified or not they are claiming that they have initiated process to be ICSE and IGCSE — if they are, pls provide me the url, thanks in advance for that.

    # VH is not ready to commit any thing on ICSE or IGCSE even if I am ready to admit my kid in their school. For me when I asked about IGCSE, I found they have not even any concrete plan to get it.

    That’s my view.

    [Reply]

  33. @Yahoo

I am not sure why you want me to remove that.

It takes any new school 2-4 years to get ICSE affiliation. It is not just dependent on infrastructure and all but the process itslef takes time. Due to this the schools generally start off with classes till 6th or 7th grade so that by the time the kids are read for board exams, the affiliation comes.

I have updated it to say it will be affiliated with those two

More studies are good for children and parents also would be OK provided it is spread over little more time.

Culimination day concept is good no one is denying !!

I also said I had been here for a year and do not know if the same problems are there in other schools in Bangalore !!
Things can be discussed, observed, noted and improved casually also without reacting so much. Kindly do not interpret things differently, seek more info if reqd.

As far as hitting the school is concerned, no parent would decide anything simply based on BLOGS ! You can check the blogs of other schools as well where you may find things even worse :-)

My point is since there is no exam, school should not misuse that concept and “cover most of the syllabus in the two months as there is no exam” – I have used exam as one of the transparent evaluation method to judge what all is mentioned in syllabus is actually effectively covered in school by class teacher, that’s it! :-) :D =))

The students should be prepared all the time rather than only for the exams, thats what our periodic appraisals in workplace are even based on. For those who do not agree or are not convinced by the schools approach should consider other schools rather than complaining. Nobody is forcing you to follow which you do not believe. Pls consider other schools like Ryan, Deans etc…. Dont loose your sleep over something which you do not understand.

    Hi,

I got the next grade books of Ryan and Deen bcoz VH books will be available little late after the vacations and some may come as photocopy at the very last, 1-2 days before assesments.

I found that my child had already covered those in the previous grade in class work and homesheet sheets. I did not understand why they are not following the standard syllabus.

I do not know how the teacher is covering that. I know lot of stress I have to put on my child and myself to understand their logic.

The pain point is the assestment test will happen at their sweet will.
So you have to be prepared for every subject and that too sometimes the syllabus may not be clear., homework sheets are not given back after evaluation. In other schools the syllabus is clear, assesment dat/day of week is clear and also the subject is known.

There were hardly any study for a month due to function preparation and the next month everything in syllabus was completed from the teachers side. Child understood or not is Parents headache :-(

Dear Yahoo & anny: Your feedback on uniforms, teachers & ICSE affiliation is valid & needs to be looked into by the school.

But I am surprised at the hollow mails we parents are writing about the school. Here is “data” to prove my point:

All the books pertaining to my child were there from day 1. I have spoken to many parents & “books not being there” is the first time I am hearing anything in the last 2 years. If books are not there for mid-term children, I do not see it as a problem as the curriculum functions on worksheets. More so, there are lots of schools which do not even take admissions mid-year. I think by giving a mid-year admission, school is just trying to help the child.

Syllabus being finished in 2 months???? I am surprised as every grade has a “culmination day” every quarter where the children display what they have learnt in the last 3 months. The activity is fantastic, to say the least. Not to mention, off course, that the quantum of work my child does every week finds no merit in syllabus being cramped.

Mr. Yahoo, let me clarify a few points to you on what “education” should be. Any method which focuses on exams is going to ensure that “learning” does not take place. Everything is geared towards “exams.” If your child scores 90% in the exams, how will you know what he has learnt anything? Have we all not gone through the same system & criticized it (and maybe thats the reason why my child is in a school where learning is given more importance than exams). In this school, my child “learns” things & loves to discuss those things with me.At the end of every quarter, the entire class shows to the parents what they have learnt.

We are talking about “concepts,” “wrong” etc. but I do not see any examples of the same being given.

Assessment reports are given EVERY QUARTER along with all the classwork sheets & the work the child has done. Everything is displayed for the parent to see.So, where is the question of asssessments not being shared with the parents?

Why should we wait for holidays to meet the teachers? Are they not human beings who need time with their family? I have met my child’s class teacher at least 5 times last year-on saturdays & other working days. All I had to do was talk to Ms. Renuka at the reception & she fixed my appointment & called me back to confirm.

Syllabus is absolutely in syc with ICSE. I challenge anybody to prove I am wrong. The only difference is that the way syllabus is mentioned by ICSE, it is not followed in the same order. But there is no concept for any grade which is not covered.

And now, one fundamental question. We write so many blogs. How many of us have raised these questions directly with the school? I met the director & the principal last week & came to know that they receive much fewer mails directly than the blogs which are there.

We need to ask ourselves-are we there to ensure quality education for our children or show our writing skills to everyone?

Please please please. My request to all of you. Lets try to make this school a better place for our children by:

    - Constructive feedback
    - Feedback to the school directly
    - Analysing issues in-depth

Sharing feedback on the net is fantastic but lets not make it “just” a ground for hitting the school.

    Anny:

Would you mind more details on point# 5 syllabus including most of the syllabus is covered in the two months – this sounds to be fundamental issue can not be fix even after bringing right teacher / principal.

Putting tough syllabus at wrong age when kids are too young to catch it and skipping that at right age assuming it is already covered can spoil fundamental background of student’s career – also now a days student does not undergoes to any proper examination till Grade V (except internal valuation which is relative to other VH students and could be easily manipulated), there is “NO WAY” to ascertain that our kid has understand and learned all which is covered under “so called syllabus” and if we came to know at Grade V definitely it would be too late to fix it.

Its like if someone does not know a given concept at all then we can fix it by teaching him, but if some one is having incomplete or wrong understanding about a given concept and we came to know it at Grade V it would be really too late and challenging job to fix it.

Also who knows if school is managed to hide that fact till first ICSE exam (assuming VH will be ICSE certified by next academic year :-( )#@!?

Thanks for you comment to bringing the fact out Anny – till date looks they wanted to lure big crowed and now seems they have managed to do that and they are taking benefit of it, now they don’t care much as on every grade they have students waiting for admission / transfer and if one quits out of school they do not refund money and on the top of that they will charges full academic year fees to new student even if they join in mid of academic year – GREAT BUSINESS…!

I was expecting them to do this after my last visit but was not expecting so early :-)

    Hi Anny,

Which grade is your child in?

As far as uniform goes, the school seems to be making an effort to avoid delays by taking orders for the next school year right away. Last year, the school had ordered in conservative quantities before taking orders from parents and a lot of parents bought 3 or more sets depleting the stock very quickly and leading to delays. This year they have already taken the orders so they have a couple of months to ensure the uniforms are available on day one.

I haven’t heard about delays in procuring books from other parents previously. Teacher retention is a known and worrying issue.

    Hi,

My child had completed one session in the VH Marathalli school.
There are so many issues that I came across; which were never
    there earlier:

    1. Books are not available in the school until so late.
It happened for 3-4 books in the session.

2.Uniform not available in the school for more than 3-4 months.
Infact since September it is not available unitl now.

    3. No information on the assesment given to the parents.
Sometimes books are also not there. Only dependancy is on the
Home sheets given back by the teacher after checking. If the teaches misses to give that…then nobody is there to help

    4. No appointment is given to meet the teachers duing holiday season because of festival preparations.

    5. Syllabus is so confusing.
I have checked the syllabus of other schools like Ryan- ICSE, Dean-CBSE as well, that seems to be consistent, slow transition to new concepts.

Syllabus is very tough and not perfectly in sync with ICSE also. Be it language, literature, Maths, Science or Social Studies.
Here most of the syllabus is covered in the two months.

    6. For my friend whose child came in the mid of a session, no support classes are given, even meeting with teachers is tough, meeting with Principal also needs good wait time.
She had to struggle for books, meeting with teachers, previous homework sheets. No help at all is given by the school.
Definetely they charge complete year fee, even without checking that
they have books and other support available for the child to start in the middle.

    7. Teachers are changed, both the class teachers.

I do not know I am the only parent facing these issues with the school or every is. I am sure not all schools in Bangalore are like this.

I am still struggling to adjust to the ways of teaching of the school.

    Hi Anny,
I agree 100% with you..every point u mentioned is true..Vibgyor teaching methodology and suprise assesments is very bad..even syllabus is very high..I thought I was the only parent feeling this way..After reading your mail I felt you are really concerned parent.
2.Yes teachers keep changing..very pathetic teachers..
3.When I came from u.s I had struggle last year getting the uniforms, books…
4.Principal appointment is not given even though she is free most of the time..
    5.Teachers don’t respect the child’s feelings…they degrade in a very polished manner.
6.I compared other ICSE books..VIBGYOR is a way ahead of them..

I regret now that my child has to go through all these nonsense from teachers..I feel responsible..for making a bad decision..

WHen I came from u.s I was like any other parent..looking for a GOOD SCHOOL..CLEAN..GOOD TEACHER CHILD RATIO…SKATING…ALL THIS CRAP..
Now I realise..palnning to change his school..

    2. Are the timings as mentioned on the site? – 8.30 AM to 11.30 AM (Mon – Fri)? 8.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday.

    3. Would there be a parent teacher meeting before the school starts so that we can view the facility and interact with the teachers and principal ? Yes, the coffee meet (parent orientation meet) would be happening between 25th-30th May 09, details of the same would be mailed to you soon.

    4. When can we pick up the uniforms / shoes / books for the kids? Measurement of uniforms & the payment for the same would be happening at the school premises from 20th to 30th April, 9am to 3pm. Transport fee & fee for uniforms can also be paid at the same time. Uniforms, shoes & school essentials can be picked up in the last week of May when we would be calling all the parents for the coffee meet at the school. You do not need to pay anything for books & stationary as all school essentials & field trips are included in the fee collected.

    5. In the intital days, is the parent expected to be present at the school campus till the child adjusts? Yes, for about a week for all nursery parents.

    6. When can we register for pick up and drop bus facility? Mentioned above.
